Here is our schedule of Earth Guardian events for BRC 2010 in our new pavilion!



Events at the Earth Guardians Pavilion, Burning Man 2010

Sunday - August 29, 2010

6:00 PM – 7:00 PM: Raise a Glass to Hot Spring Drivers: Come join us in thanking 
our hardworking Hot Spring Patrol Drivers - getting our volunteers out and back 
to Trego, Black Rock and Double Hot safely!

Monday - August 30, 2010

6:00 PM – 7:00 PM: Camp Potluck: Come and meet your 
Earth Guardian camp mates!
We’ll be sharing nosh and opening the EG bar for business!

Tuesday - August 31, 2010 

10:00 AM - 11:30 AM: Earth Yoga: Bring your own mat. Be there to praise the 
earth
and get your head in the right place to Leave only Positive Traces.

1:00 PM – 2:00 PM – Earth Guardian Information Desk Training – Calling all Earth 
Guardians ready to volunteer to man our an information desk where folks can come 
for information. We need YOU at our front line. This is a training session for 
desk volunteers! All EG's staying at the EG camp on the esplanade are expected 
to do at least one desk shift. Shifts run from 9-noon, noon-3 and 3-6pm each day 
of the event.

4:00 PM - 5:00 PM: Nature Walk Team Leader and Naturalist Meeting - This is a 
meet and greet for our trip leaders. It will be a chance to orient ourselves, 
coordinate and complete paperwork.

9:00 - Midnight – LNTV –What Can You Do?– Environmental Movies on the Playa, Be 
the Change – Guilty isn’t a useful emotion – can see what you can do for 
positive change! 


Wednesday - September 1, 2010

8:00 AM – Noon: Nature Walk: Interested in wildlife outside of Black Rock City? 
Bring hat, water and clothes suitable for desert hiking. The theme for this trip 
to local springs is the desert morning and the environments of the Black Rock 
Desert We’ll do some bird- watching and learn about ecotypes and plants. 
Pre-registration at Earth Guardians pavilion required. Dave Cooper is your tour 
leader.

10:00 AM - 11:30 AM - Earth Yoga: Bring your own mat. Be there to praise the 
earth and get your head in the right place to Leave only Positive Traces.

11:30 – 12:30 PM: Geology of the Black Rock Desert - Ever wondered how those 
amazing land forms all around Black Rock City? Come and learn how they formed 
and what they're about from the famous geologic lecture team of Stan West and 
Mike Bilbo.

Noon – 4:00 pm: Alley Cat Race:Earth Guardians will be participating with the 
Burning Man Alley Cat. It's a riotous, really fun bike race crossed with a 
scavanger hunt. The participants have a bunch of different stops they must get 
to and tasks they must complete for a certian amount of points.  We’ll be 
leading them in a few LNT activities at Earth Guardians as they stop by!

9:00 - Midnight – LNTV: Green Cartons for All of us Kids – Environmental Movies 
on the Playa, Come watch your favorite cartoon friends be evil and green while 
speaking for the trees, water and plant and keeping is all fun.

Thursday - September 2, 2010

10:00 AM - 11:30 AM - Earth Yoga: Bring your own mat. Be there to praise the 
earth and get your head in the right place to Leave only Positive Traces.

Noon – 1:00 PM – Earth Guardian Information Desk Training – Calling all Earth

4:00 PM – 6:00 PM: Eco-Fabulous Re-Fashion Runway Show - Strut your Playa 
friendly, Eco-Fabulous Re-Fashioned Playa-wear. The theme this year, EVOLUTION, 
applies here, with the evolving of your re-purposed materials. All are invited 
to participate! So pull out those sewing machines, that box of pins! Go through 
the costume bins, the salvaged materials and use up those old tights with the 
runs up the legs, the bicycle tires with the holes, the likely and the unlikely. 
Please contact Sassy (ms.sassafrassy at gmail.com) for more information, and to 
be included in the line up.

6:00 PM – 8:00 PM: Greening the Burn  / Leave No Trace Cocktail Hour: we will 
follow the eco-fabulous show with earthy libations from the EG bar and some 
Earth-produced nosh to celebrate the high valued LNT /green burners! All 
LNT/Green camps invited!.

9:00 - Midnight – LNTV Stuff – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - Environmental Movies on 
the Playa - come help us ruminate on our stuff, how to reduce, reuse and recycle 
it! View shared video stories of stuff!

Friday – September 3, 2010

8:00 AM – Noon: Nature Walk: Interested in wildlife outside of Black Rock City? 
The themes for this trip are the natural and historical aspects of the Black 
Rock Desert. We’ll be connecting and experiencing nature as well as doing some 
photography. Bring hat, water and clothes suitable for desert hiking as well as 
cameras. Pre-registration at Earth Guardians pavilion required.  Dave Cooper is 
your tour leader.

8:00 AM – Noon: BR Scouts / Nature Walk / EG Trash Fence Trip: BR Scouts will 
join us on our early nature walk, then come back and learn about the trash fence 
for a MOOP investigation! Come learn about Black Rock City's first trash fence, 
the stuff we find these days, and lead some creative storytelling about where 
today's trash came from and what could have prevented its escape. 


10:00 AM - 11:30 AM - Earth Yoga: Bring your own mat. Be there to praise the 
earth and get your head in the right place to Leave only Positive Traces.

11:30 AM – 12:30 PM - Toxic Avenger Training - Toxic avengers monitor the burn 
platforms on Sunday, yes we watch fire! We're helping ensure that no nasties go 
into the burn platforms and that the platforms aren't overloaded so that our 
precious playa stays unscarred. Come to sign up and learn about this effort.

9:00 - Midnight – LNTV: Future Metropolis – Environmental Movies on the Playa. 
Suburbia vs Smart Growth, what will our future Metropolis look like? Have our 
communities shifted from the traditional American dream? Is that our nightmare?

Saturday - September 4, 2010

10:00 AM - 11:30 AM - Earth Yoga: Bring your own mat. Be there to praise the 
earth
and get your head in the right place to Leave only Positive Traces.

1:00 – 2:00 PM: Geology of the Black Rock Desert - Ever wondered how those 
amazing land forms all around Black Rock City? Come and learn from Terry Wright, 
PhD. retired professor of geology from Sonoma State University. His specialty is 
bringing the latest interpretations of mountain building and plate tectonics to 
the creative general public. He will focus on the origin of the bedrock units 
and mountains of the black rock
desert in terms of plate tectonics finishing with the recent history of faulting 
and lake deposits.

10:00-Midnight – LNTV Stuff –Open - Environmental Movies on the Playa - come get 
inspired to LNT after the burn.

Sunday - September 5, 2010
9:00 AM - 9:00 PM – Toxic Avengers! - Come help us tend the fires of Black Rock 
City to ensure that no nasties are burned and that the burn platform's aren't 
overloaded. Shifts are from 9-noon, noon-3pm, 3pm -6pm and 6pm-9pm. If you are 
interested in volunteering for this group, please try to come to the orientation 
meeting Friday at 11:30 am
